Axes are cylindrical objects that pass through the middle of bearings or wheels or gears, but a few are square. A shaft is a mechanical part that supports a rotating part and rotates with it to transfer motion, torque or bending moment. Usually it is a metal rod, each segment can have a different diameter. The rotating parts of the machine are mounted on the shaft.

Axis Introduction:

Axis is a common transmission element of automation mechanical equipment. It can be divided into crankshaft, straight axis, soft axis, solid axis, hollow axis, rigid axis, flexible axis (soft axis) according to its structure shape.

The straight axis can also be divided into:

(1) Rotary shaft, which bears both bending moment and torque while working, is the most common axis in machinery, such as the shaft in various reducers.

(2) The spindle is used to support rotating parts that only bear bending moment but do not transmit torque. Some spindles rotate, such as the axles of railway vehicles, and some spindles do not rotate, such as the axles that support the pulleys.

(3) Drive shaft, mainly used to transfer torque without bearing bending moment, such as long optical axis in crane moving mechanism, driving shaft of car, etc. The material of the shaft is mainly carbon steel or alloy steel, but also ductile iron or alloy iron. The working capacity of the shaft generally depends on the strength and stiffness, and the vibration stability also depends on the high speed.
